In this letter signed by Bethann Rooney, director of the Port Authority of the Port of New York-New Jersey, the largest port in the eastern United States issued the most severe warning to all relevant shipping companies, cargo owners and logistics companies on all matters related to the disposal of all cargo arriving and departing before and after the strike, especially dangerous goods and refrigerated container cargo!
Bethann Rooney, Port Authority Director of the Port of New York-New Jersey, reminded all shippers: “You must do everything possible to pick up your import cargo before the end of get off work on September 30 (next Monday), because once the strike begins, there will be no opportunity to deliver any goods.” “No terminal will accept export cargo unless it can be loaded before September 30.”
“Please coordinate any export bookings closely with your ocean carrier, as the terminal will not accept cargo from ships scheduled to arrive after September 30.”
“Shippers should give priority to refrigerated containers and hazardous goods cargo, as the terminal will no longer monitor or adjust after September 30.”
In addition, Bethann Rooney, Port Authority Director of the Port of New York-New Jersey, also stated that the port plans to set up an incident management team during the shutdown, but did not disclose specific details.
Rooney suggested: “As all parties hope to move containers out of the terminal before the terminal is closed, we expect severe congestion this weekend and on September 30 (next Monday), so we recommend that you pick up your containers as early as possible this week and use all available gate opening times.
