The EU competition regulator announced the approval of the acquisition of French freight forwarder Clasquin by MSC, the world’s largest liner company. It is reported that the acquisition is valued at 325 million euros
The EU competition regulator wrote in its approval: “In accordance with the EU Merger Regulation, the European Commission has approved Mediterranean Shipping Company MSC’s acquisition of sole control of Clasquin, headquartered in France.”
It is reported that as early as December last year, European media broke the news that Clasquin’s two major shareholders, Yves Revold and Olymp, had held “exclusive” negotiations with shipping giant MSC through its subsidiary Shipping Agencies Services Sàrl (SAS) to sell the controlling stake in the French company. MSC will first acquire 42% of the shares, and after the transaction is completed, MSC will acquire the remaining 58% of the shares.
